Why do people come for therapy?
Generally, a client will come with health goals that involve the need for pain relief (from disease or injury) stress reduction (environmental or circumstantial) or the rehabilitation of injuries from car, work or sports related accidents. Additionally, clients may seek relief from insomnia, improvement of posture, re-conditioning of scar tissue or enhancement of athletic performance.
What is the process for receiving a therapy treatment?
The first step would be to make an appointment. We are at the clinic Monday through Friday from 8 am to 7 pm and available for emergencies as needed. We ask that you arrive fifteen minutes before the time set for the appointment so that you can complete a history form. As an option, you may download the intake form, fill it out and bring it with you. Since electrotherapy may be a modality used for your situation, to maximize its effectiveness, we also request that you not swim or bathe for three hours prior to your appointment.
Will I be completely undressed?
Modest attire is provided for men and women to wear during the treatments. Ladies will wear drawstring shorts with a tube top. Gentlemen will wear drawstring shorts. We have found that wearing these garments allows the client to be relaxed and fully experience the therapeutic process. The therapist will leave the room while the client changes out of street clothes into the therapy clothes. After changing, please make yourself comfortable in the nice armchair.
What happens next?
The therapist will enter the treatment room and spend a few minutes reviewing your history form with you. He may have you stand and walk a few steps to assess your posture and gait. Once your concerns have been addressed, your goals and desired results will be discussed. The room will be kept at a temperature that is comfortable to you, so that you may fully relax during your treatment.
How long does a therapy session take?
It is important to understand that these are goal oriented clinical treatments. Structural Energetic Therapy (SET) sessions are one and a half hours in duration. Follow up SET sessions are usually one and a half hours as well, though occasionally they may be one hour.
Other therapies, lymphatic, Neuromuscular (NMT) or scar tissue sessions are usually one hour or one-half hour as discussed with the therapist prior to the session. Please speak with the office manager or therapist if you have any concerns.
A serious acute injury may require weekly visits.
What is the cost for the sessions?
This will depend upon the type of therapy treatment. Click here for general treatment costs.
Will insurance cover the therapy?
This will depend upon your own personal policy for major medical care. Payment is due at the time of treatment, though we will gladly provide you with a receipt that you may submit to your insurance carrier. Those who have injuries from work related or car accidents and are referred by the treating physician will generally be covered. We will call the insurance company prior to your first appointment to secure authorization and then bill them directly.
How often does one come for therapy
This will depend upon the reason for the visit. In general terms, clients seeking relief from stress or simple acute problems may come from one to three times. For those with more serious or chronic problems like migraines, scoliosis, arthritis pain, etc. treatments may be more regular since the benefits are cumulative. A serious acute injury or trauma may initially require frequent visits.
Will home care/self-care be involved?
Our clinical protocols often call for at home self-care such as Epsom salts soaks or ice pack treatments. Epsom soaks extend the benefits of the treatment. For those suffering from recent injuries, fatigue, or arthritis, after treatment soreness can be a reality. The Epsom soak helps to detoxify and mineralize the body to prevent soreness and assist in tissue repair. Ice packs are used to sedate irritated nerves and relieve inflammation. As indicated, clients will receive further self-care instructions regarding sleep positions, body mechanics for work and directions for stretching and exercise. The relevance of proper nutrition and its role in healing may be discussed in order to achieve the client’s therapy goals. The client can expect to receive a phone call from the therapist the day after the first session. This is done as a supportive service, providing any needed guidance for additional aftercare treatment instructions related to physical changes. However, after any treatment, if the client feels the need or has a concern, the therapist will be available for conversation and will expect to hear from the client.
Why is it important to set goals for my therapy process?
It is important to realize that the healing experience can be like taking a walk where one moves two steps forward and one step back. Each person’s situation, type, and duration of injury or trauma and general overall health is unique. Realizing this, a client will not become overly elated with rapid progress or discouraged by occasional setbacks or discomforts along the path towards greater health and well-being.
Setting goals in the initial session will provide a barometer upon which to accurately measure the progress being made throughout your treatment course so you can get back to your life.
